Maryland, D.C. and Deleware Top Football Prospects

Maryland, Washington D.C., & Delaware

Quarterbacks
•••• Billy Cosh 6-1, 195, 4.8 Gambrills Arundel
He is one of the more productive QB prospects in the Atlantic coast region.
On Film–Billy shows outstanding mechanics, is exceptionally accurate, and shows plus arm strength. He is an expert at throwing the ball while on the run and can dominate as a pure drop-back passer. He is a QB who can thread the needle with his passes and run for significant yardage. He is dynamite in play action and scares the defense to death when rolling out and throwing the ball on the run. He is a difference maker at the high school level. For proof check out the Linganore game in which he completed 39 of 64 passes for 495 yds and 5 TDs. A prolific offensive performer with big-time skills.
Stats–He completed 295 of 448 passes for 3,995 yds and 56 TDs and was picked off just 10 times in '08. He also carried the ball 42 times for 197 yds and 6 TDs.

•••• Ricardo Young 6-1, 175, 4.5 Washington D.C. H.D. Woodson
The most athletic QB in the region, this guy can get the job done with his arm and his feet. It might be stretching to say he is 6-1 but it not stretching it to say he has the ability to take Virginia tech to an ACC title.
On Film–I was impressed with his accuracy, his dominance in short to medium range passes, shows a quick release, and a much stronger arm than I was aware of. He can make all the throws including throwing the deep out with authority. He is a leader on the field, makes very good decisions, is cool under pressure, and can get the job done when it is most needed.
Stats–He earned D.C. All-Area honors after throwing for 3,100 yds and 31 TDs.
Grades–His GPA is perfect 4.0. He has a 30" VJ.

Running Backs
••••+ Zach Zwinak 6-1, 225, 4.55 Frederick Linganore
He is one of the country's finest big backs.
On Film–#40 has led the Lancers' offense for the past two years. He has a good combination of speed and power, runs hard between the tackles, keeps his pads low, and makes defenders pay for the tackle. He also shows the ability, once he gets out in space, to create and break away for extra yardage. He always keeps his shoulders square to the line and picks up yardage with his quick feet, strength, and instincts. He also shows a natural pair of hands and has the speed of a TB. He is the complete back who can run, catch, and block. He can play either TB or FB at the next level.
Stats–He carried the ball 133 times for 1,447 yds and 19 TDs averaging over 10 yds per carry.
Grades–His GPA is over 3.5.
Favorite Schools–His father, B.J. Zwinak, played ball at Virginia Tech. His favorite schools are VA TECH, NOTRE DAME, MD, RUTGERS, CAL, WI, OH STATE, PENN STATE, NC STATE, MI, STANFORD, and WV.

•••• Marcus Coker 6-1, 226, 4.55 Hyattsville DeMatha
He brings great size, speed, and strength to the recruiting table.
On Film–Marcus is a north/south runner who runs hard, shows good quickness and balance, hits the hole quickly, and will fight for extra yards. A very strong back, he can reach top speed in the blink of an eye. Marcus told me that no one person could tackle him. When you watch him on film you would have to agree, it usually takes a whole group of guys to bring this 226 pounder down. He is an all-around back who shows soft hands and good blocking skills.
Stats–He carried the ball 118 times for over 1,000 yds and 18 TDs. He also caught 17 passes for 300 yds and 3 TDs.
Other Sports–He has been timed in an 11.5 100 and a 22.3 200 meters in track.

He is the son of former Prep Football Report All-American Leslie Shepherd is starting to make a name for himself.
On Film–He is a slasher at RB. He shows the tools to be recruited at the RB, FS, or even as a slot WR. He shows great hands, vision, hits the hole quickly, can block, and shows all-the-way kind of speed. He needs to add weight and strength, but the overall athletic ability is certainly there. He shows very good range and can roll his hips. He shows good timing on defense.

On offense he is a hard-charging back who runs straight up and down, shows good cutting ability, and is more affective when running on the perimeter. On defense he is a rangy, hard-hitting FS who has the size and strength to jam receivers at the line and the quickness and backpedal to stay with them once they are at full speed. He shows good anticipation. Once he concentrates on either offense or defense, look out, a natural athlete.
Stats–He ran for 1,243 yds and 15 TDs averaging 7.5 yds per carry in '08. He totaled 54 tackles and 1 pick on defense.

••• Delonte Morton 6-2, 245, 4.68 Hyattsville DeMatha
This team certainly has quite a backfield.
On Film–Mr. Morton is the pounder who was used more as a blocking back. When given the chance he shows quick feet, excellent strength, and the ability to break tackles. He also played part-time at LB and should be a full-time starter at that position this year.
Stats–He carried the ball 22 times for 250 yds and 6 TDs and totaled 30 tackles and 5 sacks at LB.
Grades–His GPA is 2.5.
Favorite Schools–MD, UCLA, VA, VA TECH, BC, and PITT.

••• Jamaal Jackson 5-8, 162, 4.45 Newark-Hodgson-Vo Tech, DE
A small but explosive RB and one of the top three prospects in the state of Delaware.
On Film–Jamaal is a exciting to watch, he shows the vision, balance, and moves to remain at the TE position in college once he gains weight and strength. He also shows good range and timing on the defensive side of the ball. Explosive and smart with a great burst, he also makes one heck of a punt returner.
Stats–Earned All-State mention for his play at RB in '08.
Favorite Schools–BC, PITT, LOUISVILLE, MD, EAST CAROLINA, RUTGERS, and SYRACUSE.

••• Malcolm Yowk 5-9, 170, 4.5 Camden Caesar Rodney, DE
Here's a ball player I missed during my eastern travels but his name has been brought to my attention as one of the top five prospects in the state of Delaware.
On Film–Malcolm, like Jackson, is a small, quick darting type of back with very good vision, surprising strength, and excellent balance. He causes most of his damage on the perimeter but is not an easy tackle. He also shows a good pair of hands.
Favorite Schools–RUTGERS, STANFORD, PURDUE, TEMPLE, and MD.

••• Dom Mitchell 5-10, 195, 4.6 Olney Good Counsel
Here is a back to keep your eye on.

On Film–On offense, he proves to be an all-around back that can run and catch. A slasher with very good vision who follows his blockers well, can lower his shoulder, and get extra yards after initial contact. On defense, he has proven to be good in coverage, shows good range, and a smooth backpedal.
Stats–He rushed for 1,653 yds and 9 TDs while also catching 40 passes for 853 yds and 3 scores and totaled 43 tackles on defense. His brother plays ball at Michigan.

Wide Receivers
••••+ Brandon Coleman 6-6, 205, 4.6 Forestville Bishop McNamara
The word here is potential. When you have a 6-6 WR with a 36" vertical and is as athletic as Mr. Coleman is, then the world is your oyster and your potential is unlimited.
On Film–#21 can run pretty good. He looks to be closer to a 4.6 than his reported 4.4, runs good routes, and can go up and catch the ball at its highest point. More of a red-zone receiver, he is also a very good downfield blocker. He works hard to improve his game and he could wind up being a five-star player by the end of his senior campaign. Like a lot of the football players, he started out as a basketball player who realized his future would be in football. Once he realizes this completely, he could become a go-to guy in a major college program.
Stats–He caught 45 passes for over 500 yds and 9 TDs in '08 earning some All-District mention at WR.
Other Sports–He averages 10 pts and 6 rebounds and 3 blocked shots a game as an FW in basketball.

••••+ Adrian Coxson 6-2, 187, 4.45 Baltimore City College
A playmaker with All-American ability, he possesses strong hands, runs good routes, can leap, and is as athletic as they come.
On Film–He seems to have those natural instincts you look for in a WR. He changes speeds and sets up his routes perfectly giving defenders one heck of a time when trying to stay with him. He is just a very good all-around athlete with quick feet, good balance, and body control. He competes for the ball in flight and is at his best in tough situations. He can hurt you in underneath zones or tracking down the deep ball over his shoulder. He is the consummate WR.
Stats–He caught 36 passes for 978 yds and 12 TDs and also picked off 3 passes at CB. He has totaled 40 TDs over the past three years.
Grades–His GPA is 3.0. Benches 225 and has a 37" VJ.

On production alone Ryan deserves three plus stars.
On Film–#9 has led the Lancers for the past two years at the WR position showing good hands, agility, quickness, leaping ability, and toughness. He catches everything thrown at him and is very productive when going over the middle. He runs good routes, shows surprising speed, and can out leap most defenders for the ball.

•••+ Sherrard Harrington 6-0, 180, 4.48 Washington D.C. H.D. Woodson
Here is another WR who plays on a run-oriented team but makes the most of his catches.
On Film–He catches the ball with his hands and in stride, he quickly turns up field, and has that burst and pure speed to outrun most defenders he goes up against. He has also proven to be a difficult tackle with his combination of moves, strength, and burst.
Stats–He caught 19 passes for 300 yds and 3 TDs.
Grades–His GPA is 3.1. Benches 225 and has a 36" VJ.

A very good all-around athlete with quick feet, good balance, and body control. He competes for the ball in flight showing good leaping ability.
Stats–He earned All-League and All-Area honors at WR.
Grades–His GPA is over 2.5. He has a 35" VJ.

••• Michael McCarthy 6-2, 175, 4.6 Howard County Mt. Hebron
A bit of an unassuming WR, he's not super big, super fast, or super strong, but just seems to have the knack for making the big play.
On Film–He shows great hand/eye coordination, concentration, and deceptive speed. He runs great routes, always seems to get open, catches the ball away from his body, and can turn up field quickly. There is no wasted motion with this young man.
Stats–He caught 30 passes for 390 yds and 4 TDs on his way to earning All-Howard County honors.

Tight Ends
•••• James Poggi 6-3, 212, 4.58 Baltimore Gilman
Whether you look at him at the TE or LB positions, Mr. Poggi can certainly play the game. He was brought to my attention by former NFL standout LB Stan White, who is the defensive coordinator at Gilman. Jimmy's father is the head coach at the school.
On Film–He shows great closing speed, tremendous instincts, and plays the game on his feet at LB. He shows soft hands and very good blocking skills at TE. He can really run for a 212 pounder and he makes the most of it. No wasted steps , he runs precise routes, catches the ball at its highest point, and shows very good moves and speed after the catch. He should fill out to 230-240 pounds in college.
Stats–He recorded 112 tackles, 8 sacks, 2 picks, and 3 caused fumbles to go with 26 tackles for losses at LB. He caught 8 passes for 75 yds at TE. He dominated the DeMatha game.

••• Sam Collura 6-4, 265, 5.0 Hyattsville DeMatha
He may outgrow the TE position and wind up playing guard in college.
On Film–He already blocks like a big-time guard showing quick hands and even quicker feet. He is a physical ball player that does a great job of holding his blocks and staying with the defender. He shows good work habits and a great attitude. Plays on a run-oriented team, but when given the chance, he shows soft hands.
Stats–He caught 5 passes for 47 yds and averaged 80% in his blocking assignments.
Grades–His GPA is 2.8. Benches 275.

Offensive Linemen
•••• Gifford Timothy 6.7, 288, 5.5 Middletown, DE
He is the #1 prospect in the state of Delaware.
On Film–Giff presents quite an intriguing package for the college scouts. He is a 6-7, 288 pounder with long arms, quick feet, and good natural athletic ability. Not yet a dominating prospect but once he gains more weight and strength, look out. On film he is already a strong pass blocker who is aggressive, he goes after defenders, excels as a drive blocker, keeps his feet moving, and stays with his blocks until the whistle. He goes for decleaters on every play, has a nasty attitude, can move well laterally, and plays big in big games. He helped Middletown to the 2007 state championship.
Stats–He graded out at over 90% of his blocking assignments at LT. Totaled 11 tackles and 2 sacks seeing limited duty at NG.
Other Sports–He averages 6 pts and 11 rebounds a game as a center in basketball.

•••• Arie-Manuel Kouandjio 6-5, 300, 5.1 Hyattsville DeMatha
He is a diamond in the rough with All-American potential.
On Film–#59 appears to be in really good condition. He goes hard from the first play to the last showing very quick feet and good lower body strength. He plays tackle in high school but could wind up playing either tackle or guard in college. He loves to mix it up, stays with his blocks until the whistle, and shows the kind of mobility major schools are looking for in an OL. Not super strong but very quick with good balance and body control. He carries his 300 pounds well and could weigh 320 pounds in college. Also plays DE and DT but will wind up playing either tackle or guard at the next level.

•••• Robby Havenstein 6-7, 345, 5.5 Frederick Linganore
His coach calls him a tough and strong 345 pounder. I call him a potential All American.
On Film–He has tremendous upside at the LT position. He may need a little work on his quickness but when you are 6-7 and 345 pounds and can bend your knees, look out. He is a physical ball player and a devastating run blocker. There hasn't been a defensive player able to stay with him. He consistently beats defenders to the punch showing good technique and movement along the line. He is as consistent as they come and technically sound. A big hard-nosed LT with a great attitude. He has been a dominating force at the tackle position at the high school level.
On Film–A very solid run blocker who dominates the point of attack, he is big, pretty quick, and very determined. He also has had some success at DT but is better suited to play OT in college. He's been blessed with great size, long arms, and a tremendous attitude. Needs to work on the weights and his quickness, but the talent is there to make the leap to the Division I level. Plays big in big games and works hard to improve his game.

Here is a ball player who really improved his stock down at the San Antonio combine.
On Film–He had a pretty good junior campaign playing tackle, guard, and center. Not super fast but very quick, he can move his feet, does a good job in pass protection, and can also get the job done down in the trenches. He does a very good job against speed rushers using his quick hands and he can mirror and slide. Better suited to play guard or center in college, he certainly has the athletic ability, quickness, and punch to effectively play either spot.

Another Johnson and another potential Division I OL at DeMatha.
On Film–#76 shows good athletic ability and pretty quick feet for a 6-8, 255 pounder. He does not dominate yet at this stage, but once he grows into his body and hits the weights, look out. Before this year he was a basketball player and played football as a fall diversion. Now he realizes he could have a Division I career as a tackle and has really worked hard to improve his game.
Other Sports–Averages 2 pts and 7 rebounds a game in basketball. He still has a couple of years to improve.
Grades–His GPA is 2.1. Benches 210.

Defensive Linemen
•••• Javarie Johnson 6-3, 218, 4.5 Washington D.C. Dunbar
He is a potential All-American at the DE position and will probably wind up playing OLB at the next level.
On Film–Javarie is an exceptionally quick off-the-ball DE who can bend off the edge, uses his hands to keep blockers at bay, and once he gets up a full head of steam, ball carriers have a tough time getting out of his way. He is the #1 defensive player in the D.C. area. He is athletic as they come. He has been blessed with outstanding pass-rushing skills, a high motor, and his take off and ability to bend and keep his feet is what makes him such a devastatingly good defensive player. He needs to add weight and strength but the burst and desire are certainly there.

He uses his hands well and plays hard until the whistle. One of the more aggressive players in the D.C. area, this guy is always chasing the ball; particularly in the Caroll game in which he proved to be unstoppable totaling 14 tackles and 2½ sacks and 7 QB hurries.
