Texas Football Recruiting

Texas

Quarterbacks – Pro-Style Passers
••••• Connor Wood 6-4, 210, 4.54 Houston Second Baptist
He impressed the heck out of me down in San Antonio and I believe Connor stood out among several of the nation's top signal callers.
On Film–He is a drop back passer with a live arm, smarts, and a good throwing motion. He can also make plays scrambling and can play on the run. He scrambles well, does a good job of buying time in the pocket waiting for his receivers to get open, he can make all the throws, and throws the deep out with authority. Very comfortable in the pocket, he can sense the heat and knows when to hold the ball and when to get rid of it. He's polished and poised.
Stats–He completed 63% of his passes in '08 throwing for 2248 yds and 28 TDs and was picked off just 5 times.
Other Sports–He has high jumped 6' 1" in track and averages 6 pts and 7 rebounds a game as an FW in basketball.
Grades–His GPA is a perfect 4.2. Benches 275 and has a 34" VJ.
Favorite Schools–His brother, Jeff Wood, played at Texas A&M. Committed to TEXAS.

••••+ Jacoby Walker 6-2, 200, 4.68 Houston Westfield
A very athletic signal caller.
On Film–#9 proves to be a pro-style QB with presence in the pocket, he's very accurate, smart, and he also shows the ability to complete passes while taking hits. Just oozing with talent, he's a playmaker with enormous potential. He sets up quickly for the pass, can hit receivers on the run, and does a good job of reading defenses. He shows unlimited potential.
Stats–He completed 141 of 211 passes for 2,087 yds and 20 TDs and was picked off 8 times. As a sophomore he threw for 1,328 yds and 20 TDs on his way to earning All-Houston area honors. What impressed me the most was his Plano film in which he threw for 323 yds in the playoffs as a sophomore, and last year against Klein Forest in which he threw for 440 yds and 4 TDs.
Grades–His GPA is 3.6 and he scored a 1650 on the SAT and a 23 on the ACT. Benches 255 and has a 32" VJ.
Favorite Schools–Committed to KANSAS.

•••• Scotty Young 6-3, 190, 4.8 Denton Ryan
Not only is he one of the more prolific passer in the state of Texas but he's also going to play for the most prolific offense in college football.
On Film–#10 is a pocket passer who is exceptionally efficient at throwing the ball downfield. He shows big-time arm strength, athleticism, smarts, and is as accurate as they come. He's a poised and mature signal caller with the ability to see the whole field. He shows a smooth throwing motion and keeps the ball high. Not a runner but he does a good job of avoiding the rush mainly by getting rid of the ball in a hurry. His release is remarkable.
Stats–He threw for 4,495 yds and 65 TDs last season completing 63% of his passes in thirteen games. You would have to go a long way to find stats as good as Mr. Young's.
Other Sports–He's also considered a big-time baseball player.
Grades–His GPA is a perfect 4.4. Benches 180.
Favorite Schools–Committed to TEXAS TECH.

•••• Jameill Showers 6-2, 200, 4.59 Killeen Shoemaker
One of the more athletic pro-style QB's in the state of Texas.
On Film–#3 shows outstanding footwork, accuracy and a big-time arm. He's very comfortable throwing the ball from the pocket but also does a real good job when chased and looking for open receivers. He shows good throwing mechanics and is very good in short to medium range passes. Not afraid to take a hit, he can also scramble. He's one of those QB's who can fit into just about any type of offense, pro-style or spread.
Stats–Last season he completed 117 of 236 passes for 2,150 yds and 21 TDs and was picked off 8 times on his way to earning H-M All-State honors.

Favorite Schools–Committed to TEXAS A&M.

•••• Zach Lee 6-4, 200, 4.8 McKinney
Remember when Texas was known as the running back state and almost every high school was ground oriented? Nowadays it rivals California as one of the two most productive quarterback states in the country.
On Film–#7 proves that he's able to throw the deep ball with accuracy and zip. He certainly shows the size and arm strength the college scouts are looking for. Very comfortable in the pocket, he's very adept at play action faking and has proven to be a leader on the field. He shows good vision, stays in the pocket, and can take hits while waiting for receivers to get open. Just what the doctor ordered for a pro-style offense.
Stats–He threw for 2,953 yds and 33 TDs last season and was picked off 10 times.
Other Sports–He's also considered to be one of the top baseball pitchers in the state of Texas. Last year he was 8 and 1 with an ERA of .39, and he had 69 strikeouts in 55 innings.
Grades–His GPA is 3.88. Benches 220 and has a 27" VJ.
Favorite Schools–Committed to LSU.

•••+ Case McCoy 6-2, 175, 4.6 Graham
The younger brother of Texas superstar Colt McCoy, this kid has a lot of potential. His father is the head coach at Graham, and himself and others in the program consider Case to be on par with Colt talent-wise at the same age.
On Film–He obviously needs to add strength and some weight but he does all the things needed to be an efficient QB at the next level. He's very comfortable in the pocket and is not afraid to take off and run with the ball when his receivers are covered. He shows very good throwing mechanics and is accurate in short to medium range passes. He also shows a smooth throwing motion and keeps the ball high. He's very well coached.
Stats–Earned some All-League and All-Area honors for his play in '08.
Grades–His GPA is over a 3.5.

••• Luke Woodley 6-3, 195, 4.7 Dallas Highland Park
It's a very good year for pro-style QB's in the state of Texas and Luke is one of the very best.
On Film–He shows good arm strength and accuracy. He can stay in the pocket until the last second allowing his receivers to come open, but he can also fool you with his speed to the outside and his ability to throw the ball while on the run. The thing I like most about him is his ability to make plays even when things break down. One of the more competitive offensive players in the Dallas area.
Stats–He threw for 3,425 yds and 41 TDs completing 66% of his passes and was picked off just 4 times on his way to earning All-City honors.
Grades–His GPA is over a 3.5.

Quarterbacks – Combo Passers
•••• James Franklin 6-2, 218, 4.77 Corinth Lake Dallas
He looked great down at the U.S. Army combine. I had met him a week before that and was even more impressed after watching him throw against some of the nation's premier passers.
On Film–This guy has got a gun and will fit perfectly in either a pro-style or even a spread offense. He's an athletic scrambler who can throw and run himself out of trouble. He certainly shows the arm strength to make it at the next level. Deadly while throwing the ball on the run, he's a student of the game, a great competitor, and he's been called one of the greatest offensive talents ever to come out of Lake Dallas. I watched the Denton Ryan game in which he completely took it over rushing for 4 TDs and throwing for 2 others. Believe me, this guy's got what it takes to become a difference maker at the college level.

••• Javai Hall 6-2, 175, 4.6 Dallas Skyline
This school has so many Division I players you can see why Mr. Hall could get lost in the shuffle.
On Film–#12 shows the pocket awareness, quick feet, and ability to read defenses that you look for in your leader on offense. The first game of his film shows him completing 17 of 22 passes for 225 yds and 4 TDs while also rushing for another score. He throws a nice, catchable ball, and shows the quickness and running ability to keep a defense honest. He plays big in big games and certainly shows the athletic ability to justify a Division I offer at QB.
Stats–He completed 88 of 145 passes for 1,379 yds and 18 TDs while also rushing for 130 yds and 1 scored.

All-Purpose Backs
••••• Laché Seastrunk 5-10, 184, 4.33 Temple
You would have a good argument calling Mr. Seastrunk the #1 running back in the country. He showed us great performance down in San Antonio in which he blew away the competition. You could say that Laché is on his way to becoming a game breaking back in college ball.
On Film–He shows tremendous speed, vision, agility, balance, and surprising strength. More of a slasher, he's an all-purpose back who can run, catch, and when called upon block. When watching him on film he shows that he has the innate ability to never take a direct hit. He accelerates to full speed quickly, can cut on a dime, and can change directions in the blink of an eye. Explosive should be his middle name. He can create in the open field and like no other back in the country, because of his blazing speed, he is a threat to go all the way on every carry. He's the closest player talent-wise I've seen to Reggie Bush in the past five years.

•••• Ben Malena 5-10, 190, 4.4 Cedar Hill
Nicknamed The General, Ben has led his team over the past two years showing good strength, speed and vision.
On Film–This guy's a workhorse who gets stronger as the game progresses. He consistently runs hard and does a good job of finishing off his runs. The consummate back who could be a difference maker in college. More of a north/south runner, you've got to be enamored with his super speed and the ability to hit the hole quickly. Very explosive, he's very hard working. I watched the Irving Nimitz game in which he had 298 yds and 5 TDs on 26 carries and he completely owned the fourth quarter. He will become a difference maker at the college level.
Stats–He carried the ball 314 times for 2,247 yds and 37 TDs averaging over 7 yds per carry in '08. He also caught 24 passes for 361 yds and 2 scores. Once he gets up a full head of steam, it's impossible for one defender to bring him down.

Grades–His GPA is close to a 3.0. Benches 310.

On my initial trip to Skyline I had asked the coach to see two players and instead he brought out nine and, believe it or not, all nine wound up being Division I players. Skyline has taken over for Dallas Carter and is now the go-to school in the city.
On Film–Tony may look like he is lacking in size but he is a powerfully-built 170 pounder who could run hard between the tackles but does a lot of his damage on the perimeter. The coach says he has a terrific attitude and a bright future.
On Film–He also has production. He shows pretty good speed, some elusiveness, and very good strength. More of a north/south runner, he runs low to the ground, keeps his shoulders squared, and picks up a lot of yardage after initial contact. He loves to play the position and improved with every game in '08.

••••• Darius White 6-5, 200 Ft. Worth Dunbar
Back in December Darius was one of the first players I interviewed for this magazine and I came away very impressed with the face to face meeting and even more impressed after watching him on film.
On Film–He seems to possess all the tools for future stardom, he's tall, athletic, quick, and has large hands. He's remarkable in the open field and once latches onto the ball, look out. He turns up field quickly, shows good moves, vision, and superior speed. Quick as a cat, he can get in and out of his breaks like no one's business. He dominates most games and must be double-teamed at all times. A future impact player who shows good work habits and the willingness to improve his game. When you add that up with his God-given talents, you can see why I'm so high on him.
Stats–He caught 40 passes for 1,057 yds and 17 TDs averaging 26.4 yds per catch on his way to earning 1st Team All-State honors. An elite receive and an instant impact player.

••••• Mike Davis 6-1, 180, 4.49 Dallas Skyline
Not as tall as Darius White but just as productive.
On Film–Mike is Mr. Excitement. Quick as a cat, he gets great acceleration and demands the double-team just about every time he goes out for a pass. A natural athlete with smooth movement skills, he can create after the catch, he's not afraid to block downfield, and is one of the toughest receivers in the southwest loving to mix it up in traffic. He has also proven to be impossible to jam at the line because of his quickness and moves.
Stats–Earned All-Area honors in '08 catching 58 passes for 1,138 yds and 16 TDs averaging close to 20 yds per catch.
Other Sports–He averages 16 pts and 8 rebounds a game as a shooting guard in basketball.

••••+ DeAndrew White 6-0, 185, 4.4 Galena Park North Shore
A major deep threat who is one of the most exciting players in the southwest.
On Film–DeAndrew is explosive to say the least and he knows how to spread a defense. He's an exceptionally dangerous receiver who can make the difficult catch look easy, and once he gets a half step on a defender, he's gone. He also changes his speed and sets up his routes perfectly. His film shows him to be more of a perimeter receiver who does a good job of tracking the ball over his shoulder. He also shows a strong pair of hands with good open field running. His highlight tape shows a lot of the Hightower game in which he dominated averaging 25 yds per catch.
Stats–Caught 38 passes for 938 yds and 11 TDs averaging over 25 yds per catch in '08.
Other Sports–He's been timed in a 10.5 100 and a 21.4 200 meters in track and has long jumped 23' 3".

I really like this young man because of the way he attacks the ball.
On Film–He shows good size, strong hands, ability to block downfield, he runs precise routes, and is very successful in traffic. He competes for the ball in flight and is at his best in tough situations. He also shows pretty good leaping skills. He can hurt you in underneath zones or tracking the deep ball over his shoulder. The consummate WR, he plays big in big games. He had 6 catches for 185 yds and 1 TD in the Flower Mound game, and 8 catches for 138 yds and 2 scores against Tyler Lee.
Stats–For the season he had 34 catches for 598 yds and 7 TDs averaging over 17 yds per catch.

Here's a young man who was mentioned a lot by high school coaches during my two Dallas trips.
On Film–He's a hard working receiver who does a good job of getting himself open and he's very coachable. He shows exceptional leaping ability, catches the ball at its highest point, and although not a blazer, he was rarely caught from behind. He shows strong hands, which allow him to catch everything within reach. A very good all around athlete with quick feet, good balance, and body control. He competes for the ball in flight and is at his best in tough situations. He can hurt you underneath zones, he's the consummate WR who does whatever it takes to improve his games.

He may not be the fastest or the strongest WR around but he's certainly a guy who knows how to bring in the ball.
On Film–He did not have a drop all season, he catches everything within reach, and uses his big hands and good concentration to become one of the most dependable receiver in his league. He also displays good body control, is quick off the ball, very effective when working short routes, and he can take a hit and keep going. He plays big in big games with the biggest being against Jackson Jeffcoat and Plano West in which he dominated from start to finish. Other players on his team call him T.O. because of the spectacular catches he has made.

He's been overshadowed a bit by Mike Davis but believe me this young man can play the game.

An averaged sized WR with above average hands, speed, and instincts.

•••+ Sheldon McClain 6-2, 175, 4.5 Cibolo-Steele
He has been travelling a little bit under the radar until Oklahoma got a hold of him.
On Film–Sheldon is a quick footed and fast WR who can stretch a defense. He shows soft hands, natural athletic ability, the ability to adjust to poorly thrown balls, and the toughness to enter traffic. A very smooth player with good open field moves. He does a good job of beating the jam, reads coverages well, and can out leap most DB's.

•••+ Jordan Leslie 6-3, 200, 4.5 Tomball
If you are looking for a WR with size, speed, production and work ethic, look no further than #9.
On Film–Jordan does an excellent job of catching the ball at its highest point, he can outmuscle most defenders for the ball, shows workable speed, and a great desire to succeed. Against Morton Ranch he totaled 200 yds and 2 TDs at WR. He comes off the line quickly and under control, he gets in and out of his breaks just as quickly, and can run the deep routes to perfection. •••+ Quentin Parks 6-3, 210, 4.55 Humble Atascocita
It sure is a good year for WR prospects in the state of Texas.
On Film–In some ways Quentin has been a bit overlooked, mainly because he did not have an exceptionally good junior campaign. He played a couple of positions on offense but when he did play WR, he looked good showing strong hands and good overall athletic ability. 2009 should be a big year for Mr. Parks. To me he shows the athletic ability to play WR or FS at the next level. A big, physical guy who can run with the ball after the catch.
Stats–He only caught 13 passes in '08 but did average close to 20 yds per catch.
Other Sports–He's been timed in a 23 flat 200 meters in track.
Grades–His GPA is 3.6.

•••+ Jordan Jolly 6-2, 170, 4.47 Sugar Land Elkins
Here's a ball player I believe can really come into his own next season.
On Film–He has proven to be a downfield threat, he can run with the best of them, possesses strong hands, knows how to get himself open, and is not an easy tackle. He also catches the ball away from his body and in stride, and shows the kind of speed that keeps defenders honest.

•••+ Eddie Johnson 6-4, 195, 4.5 Midlothian
During my trip through Texas a couple of the area coaches told me they believe Mr. Johnson to be the #1 WR prospect in the State.
On Film–He certainly appears to have the whole package, height, hands, size, and speed. He also shows remarkable athletic ability, superior leaping ability, and he presents a formidable receiver for any CB trying to stay with him. It is tough to defend a 6-4 receiver with a long wingspan and glue-like fingers. He can get in and out of his breaks quickly, comes off the ball well, and proves that he can run with the ball after the catch. He is major talent with All-American potential.
Stats–He earned some All-State mention for his play at WR.

Grades–His GPA is over a 2.5.

••• Kevin Johnson 6-2, 190, 4.5 Houston Cypress Ridge
A top-notch receiver who is starting to get a lot of attention, not only from Big-12 teams but other national programs.

Favorite Schools–Committed to OKLAHOMA STATE.

••• Antwan Goodley 5-11, 180, 4.5 Midland
It may take a long time to drive to Midland from any other major city in Texas but, believe me, the drive is well worth it if you are looking for football players.
On Film–Antwan is the best Midland has to offer this season. He is a terrific all-around athlete in football, basketball, and baseball. He is a blazer with all-the-way kind of speed. He is a long-ball threat who always seems to play the game under control. He can out leap most defenders, shows a surprisingly strong pair of hands, and a lot of confidence. To me, he looks like an All-American.
Stats–He caught 49 passes for 1,139 yds and 16 TDs averaging 23.2 yds per catch.

Tight Ends
••• Cole Underwood 6-4, 255, 4.89 Denton Guyer
He is a good-sized TE who shows the frame and athletic ability to possibly make the switch to OL in college.
On Film–Cole is a very athletic receiver with good footwork, and he's one of the better blocking TE's in the state. He won the Boswell game with an 18-yard reception. He catches the ball well, is not fleet of foot but is a dependable receiver. He has the frame to weigh close to 300 pounds so a switch guard or tackle is not out of the question.
Stats–He averaged 12 yds per catch in '08.
Grades–His GPA is around 2.5.

••• Eric Waters 6-4, 215, 4.7 Mansfield Summit

••• Naquan Lee 6-5, 260, 4.9 Austin Crockett
I'm sure the college scouts have big plans for Mr. Lee either at TE, DE, or DT.
On Film–He played most of the season at TE showing very good athleticism and ball skills. He is certainly a big target who is able to pluck the ball out of the air and runs well after the catch. His blocking skills are similar to that of a tackle and he stays with his blocks until the whistle. He is also a run-stuffing tackle on defense. He is certainly the best TE prospect in the Austin area.
Stats–He averaged 13 yds per catch in '08.
Grades–His GPA is over 2.5.
Favorite Schools–AR, TX A&M, AL, and LSU.

Noah Cheshire 6-3, 240, 4.7 Wylie

Offensive Tackles
••••+ Trey Hopkins 6-4, 260, 5.0 Galena Park North Shore
A high school left tackle who could wind up playing left tackle or guard in college.
On Film–Trey, at least in my opinion, is the top pass protector in the state. This guy appears to have all the tools. He can slide and mirror with the best of them, shows long arms and quick hands, and stays with the defender until the whistle. He has a great frame and should weigh close to 300 pounds in college. He has good technique, is able to redirect, and is quick enough to effectively block out on the second level. He takes very good angles to his blocks and plays hard until the whistle. He is a truly gifted LT.
Stats–He earned All-League and All-Area honors for his play at LT.

•••• Campbell Feldt 6-5, 290, 5.3 Pilot Point
Here is a ball player who committed so early that a lot of schools never really got a chance to look at him.
On Film–If they did look at him they would see a truly gifted RT who is aggressive with good feet, he's quick, keeps his pads level, and sets a solid base. He has a quick set up and has been blessed with good arms and good overall athletic ability. He is a natural knee bender who dominated the entire '08 season. In his best game he had 12 pancake blocks and did not allow a sack.
Stats–He earned All-State mention for his play at RT and he also played some DT.
Grades–His GPA is 3.7. Benches 265.
Favorite Schools–Committed to ARKANSAS.

•••• Aleon Calhoun 6-7, 325, 5.2 Navasota
He is a very gifted person not only as a football player but also as a gospel singer. He has been first tenor in the school's choir for the past two years.
On Film–Since I did not evaluate his gospel singing I will evaluate his play at LT. He is a big natural athlete with the potential to dominate. He needs to become more consistent but, believe me, the athletic ability and, of course, the size is there. He shows a quick set up and he is very quick in a limited space. He is a steady performer with good technique. When he's on he dominates the entire game. He carries his 325 pounds well. He is the type of player, because of his height, long arms, and wide base, who could become a great one in college.
Stats–He earned All-League honors for his play at LT. He graded out at 85% in his blocking assignments this season.
Other Sports–He has thrown the discus 120' in track. He averages 14 pts and 18 rebounds a game as a center in basketball.

•••• Troy Baker 6-7, 285, 5.2 Waco Connally
#56 is a ball player I really enjoyed watching on film.
On Film–Despite his great size he is a natural knee bender, keeps his pads low, and always seems to get good positioning. He is a tough steady performer with good technique, he plays hard until the whistle, and has developed into a very reliable pass blocker. He is a polished, tough, and aggressive LT. He also played some guard on the film I watched. He is better suited to play LT in college. The first game on his highlight film shows him recording 9 pancake blocks against Gatesville. He has the frame to weight 320 pounds in college. He dominates the point of attack and can redirect.
Stats–He earned All-Area honors for his play at LT.
Other Sports–He has thrown the shot put over 45' in track.
Grades–His GPA is a perfect 5.2 and he scored an 1150 on the SAT. Benches 285.
Favorite Schools–Committed to BAYLOR.

•••• Garrett Gramling 6-6, 309, 5.4 Denton Ryan
This school is really starting to produce big-time ball players. The coaches there believe Garrett has the potential to become the best tackle the school has produced.
On Film–I was impressed with his Wichita Falls Rider game in which he had 8 pancake blocks and dominated as both a run and pass blocker. In fact, he dominated as a pass blocker throughout the entire season. Just what the doctor ordered for an LT. He quickly comes out of his stance, uses his hands to keep his opponent in front of him, and he shows quick enough feet to stay with his blocks. You have to be impressed with his size and movement skills. He has the ability to change directions quickly the way he extends his arms and rides rushers pass the pocket.
Stats–He earned 1st Team All-League honors at LT and also mentioned for All-Area. He did not play any defense.
Other Sports–He has thrown the shot put over 40'.
Grades–His GPA is 3.2.

•••• Evan Washington 6-6, 290, 5.1 Desoto
If you had to use one word to describe Mr. Washington it would be aggressive.
On Film–This guy has a take-no-prisoners attitude. He goes after defenders on every play showing good footwork, quick hands, and excellent technique. This past season he dominated the opposition showing a quick set up and very good overall athletic ability. He looks thin at 290 pounds and should weigh 310-320 pounds in college. His best game last season was against Laché Seastrunk's Temple team. He plays RT on film and could wind up playing guard in college.
Other Sports–He averages 15 pts and 10 rebounds a game as a PFW in basketball.
Favorite Schools–TX, MIAMI, USC, FL, TX, TECH, UCLA, BAYLOR, AUBURN, LSU, KS STATE, NE, OK, OK STATE, and MN.

•••• Daryl Williams 6-5, 248, 5.0 Lake Dallas
#78 has been traveling a little bit under the radar the last couple of months but, believe me, this guy can play. I interviewed him back in December and was impressed.
On Film–Big Nasty dominated every game he played in '08. He shows quick feet, excellent upper body strength, technique, and aggressiveness. For proof he took over the Denton-Ryan game in which Lake Dallas ran behind him throughout the game. He shows good lateral movement, makes contact with defensive linemen quickly coming out of a stance, and can reach linebackers in the blink of an eye. He is one of the more athletic OT prospects in northern Texas.
Stats–He earned All-League and some All-Dallas Area honors for his play at OT.
Other Sports–He averages 10 pts and 10 rebounds a game as a center in basketball.
Grades–His GPA is over 2.0.

Jake is one of the more versatile OL prospects in the state. He can play tackle, guard, and center and he plays them well. He is not super big or quick, but technically very sound.
On Film–He is agile and strong at the point of attack. He knocks defenders on their butts on a regular basis and keeps going until the whistle. He shows remarkably quick feet, which allow him to slide and mirror with the best of them. He gets out on a second level quickly and can cut off linebackers. He plays the game on his feet with a natural knee bend and can quickly redirect.
Stats–Last season he earned 1st Team All-District honors for his play.

•••+ Tyrus Thompson 6-5, 278, 5.0 Pflugerville
A two-way tackle who shows All-American potential on offense.

••••+ Corey Nelson 6-1, 215, 4.5 Dallas Skyline
There may not be a better linebacker in the country than Mr. Nelson.
On Film–The ubiquitous #7 has been blessed with great speed, instincts, and determination. This guy is like a rocket to the ball, so much so that it looks like he can anticipate the count a split second before the ball is actually snapped. He effectively plays off blockers and once he gets to the ball it's all over. He not only consistently makes tackles but he also blocks punts and kicks. He is not the biggest backer around, it is stretching it to say he is 6-1, but it's not stretching it to say he is the most athletic and quickest linebacker in the country.
Stats–He recorded 156 tackles, 12 QB sacks, 20 tacks for losses, 4 blocked punts, 2 blocked field goals, and batted down 8 passes on his way to earning 1st Team All-Area honors in '08. He is a high school difference maker.

In 2008 Shawn was voted the Houston areas Defensive Player of the Year and for good reason, this guy is like a magnet to the ball.
On Film–He combines exceptional power, speed, instincts and knowledge. One area coach called him a freak of nature. I call him one of the best defensive players in the southwest. He plays OLB and some ILB. Super quick, he flies around the field with purpose and brilliant speed. He can read and react with the best of them and has done a fantastic job of destructing offenses. Like Corey Nelson, Shaun is not the biggest backer around but he is certainly a high school difference maker with All-American written all over him. In fact, he plays super big in big games. He dominated the 5A state championship game last December.

He uses his hands well, plays the game with leverage, and uses his speed and instincts to make play after play outside the box. He shows the potential to become a difference maker at the next level. Just an exceptionally quick, athletic, tough, and hard-working backer. He had his best game against South Grand Prairie in which he totaled over 20 tackles.

On Film–Holmes is a superior athlete who can bend off the edge, shows surprising strength, and has been blessed with long arms, which allow him to disengage quickly and has a terrific up field burst. Here is another relatively light OLB.
On Film–#21 presents long arms, quick feet, and a great attitude to be at the OLB position. Known for his hard-hitting style of play, he's a rangy 200 pounder. He reads plays quickly, moves well through traffic, and is very difficult to beat once he draws a bead on the ball. He shows the potential to become an all-star at the next level. I was really impressed with his Oak Ridge game in which he picked up 2 passes returning them back for 53 and 57 yard and TDs. He also totaled 10 tackles and had a fumble recovery in that game.
Stats–For the season he recorded 84 stops, 2 picks, 1 caused fumble, and 20 tackles for losses.

He is a sure tackler and has big-play capabilities. He's been blessed with long arms, shows explosive moves, good change of direction, and can make plays from sideline to sideline.

He seems to have a very good knowledge of the game and always seems to be where the action is. He has a good frame and should weigh 230 pounds in college. Believe me this young man has what it takes to make it big at the next level. His father, Terry Orr, played ball at Texas and with the Washington Red Skins.

There are an awful lot of very fast DE prospects in Texas and a good number of them weigh around 200 pounds.
On Film–Phillip may not weigh a lot but he sure can get the ball carrier's attention. He is known for his hard-hitting style of play and quickness to the ball. He is able to break down in the open field and make plays. He is also not too shabby when the ball is in the air. Not a dominating player yet but he is a very good athlete.

He can play both OLB and ILB but might be better suited to play inside in college. The first game on his film was in the first round of the playoffs in which he had 9 tackles, 2 picks and returned one of them back for a score. He runs very well. There is not much more you can ask for from a CB. He plays in one of the top programs in the nation. He could wind up playing FS in college but right now he is a very dependable Division I prospect at CB.

•••+ Tristan Holt 6-0, 185, 4.4 Gilmer
I have driven through Gilmer several times. It doesn't have much more than one stop light but yet it produces Division I prospects on a regular basis. Football is big in Gilmer and so is Mr. Holt.
On Film–He brings very good size and speed to the recruiting table. He is an aggressive defender with good range, outstanding instincts, and reactions. He has played both CB and FS but is better suited to play CB at the next level. He breaks on the ball easily and has proven to be a big-time hitter.

•••+ Justin Gilbert 6-1, 175, 4.39 Huntsville
A high school QB who could easily make the transition to either WR or CB in college.
On Film–For the sake of the write up let's just put him at the CB position. His film shows a superior athlete with blazing speed, tremendous open field moves, and good leadership skills. That should translate well to the CB position. He can turn his hips, is smooth in transition, and can run with anyone.

Kickers
••• Eduardo Camara 5-11, 147, 4.6 Cedar Hill
Before I got to the Dallas area, league coaches were telling me they considered Eddie to be one of the nation's top 10 kickers. Of course, since they have only seen Dallas area kickers I was wondering how they came to that conclusion.
On Film–He definitely proves he can be among the nation's top 10 kickers. This guy can boom the ball and he's very accurate with a lot of confidence, which comes from also being a soccer star. He is cool under pressure. His highlight film shows him kicking the winning field goal with no time left in the first playoff game of '08.

••• Cade Foster 5-11, 200, 4.7 Southlake Carroll
He is considered to be one of the nation's premier PK prospects and, believe me, it doesn't hurt playing in one of the nation's top-ranked programs.
On Film–Cade is a smooth and very accurate PK. The scouts are enamored with his booming leg, accuracy, and coolness under pressure.
Stats–He earned All-District honors for his play at PK.
